HETAS is the official body recognised by Government to approve biomass and solid fuel domestic heating appliances, fuels and services. In other words, they run a product approval scheme for solid fuel and biomass (wood and coal) appliances and a competent persons scheme for the installation of said appliances.
It is very much like the Gas Safe Register, but for solid fuel, i.e., wood and coal and their derivatives.
Why use a HETAS Registered Installer?
If you are replacing or installing a wood or coal burning stove you must, by law, notify your Local Authority Building Control. They will charge you a fee to send round a Building Control Officer to establish that the appliance and the installation meet Building Regulations. The advantage of using a HETAS Approved Installer is that they are trained and assessed to work to Building Regulations and are able to self-certify their work. This ensures a competent and safe installation with the Local Authority Building Control getting notified by HETAS of the installation.
- A Certificate of Compliance is issued with every installation as a record to show that it complies with Building Regulations.
- HETAS automatically notifies your Local Authority Building Control of the installation.
- Covered by £2,000,000 liability insurance.
